New Thing Now

squeezed a Marlboro between her lips as she pointed the gun and fired.

Silently, the pellet whizzed through the air, coming to rest in an empty can four feet away. She lowered the gun and smiled, lazily.

"Told you I was a good shot," The blond proclaimed as she tucked the gun back into its holster and leaned back against the tree.

"You are," Her shorter, pneumatically gifted brunette said as she examined the sharp edged hole that the bullet had carved into the can. "This all you do with your spare time?"

The blonde just shook her head and laughed.

Her brunette friend bit down on her bottom lip, "I've never shot one of these things before in my life." She heard a sigh, felt hands, arms giving friendly pressure and tilting her upward. Her finger tapped the trigger, setting it off, sending her, wide-eyed, backwards.

"Steph," The blonde asked, her tone amused, "Am I right to assume you can't hold your liquor, either?"

She snarled and, quite purposely, tapped the trigger. Twice more. A beer bottle shattered in the distance.

"And you, Sarah," announced Stephanie, "Can't balance your checkbook."

"I know. That's why you complete me."

Stephanie turned, unable to return Sarah's intimate sentiment just yet. Her baby-wings of independence had just beginning to stretch in the sun, seeking to dry out. She holstered her gun and looked up into the distance. "Full moon," she noted.

Sarah still stood behind her, hands having fallen below their original target to a place where they were far, far more welcome. "Full moon," Sarah agreed.

Stephanie snickered to herself, "You're completely outrageous," She smirked, "The next thing I know you'll be telling me I have nice shoes..and asking me if I want to fuck."

"Good idea..."

"Bad idea.."

"Full moon," Sarah retorted, "None of the rules apply anymore....at least until you hit the ground." She pulled her lover down with her, into a cozy nook between her motorcycle and the road, "Voila! Gravity!"

Stephanie, giggling, nibbled on Sarah's lips, "You're encouragable," She noted. Sarah decided not to dignify this with a remark, instead returning it with a kiss.

The shamelessness of her lover proved no deterrent to Stephanie; but within, she was only taking her first tentative steps toward a new freedom.

New moon; new phase; new thing now. She had the gumption; all she needed was the confidence.

The End
