She crossed her legs together at the edge of the bed. "What time is Zap leaving, Kiffy?"

"He said six." Kif sighed, resting against his outspread hand. "How I wish I didn't have to leave at all."

Amy understood him -far better, she realized, than any other man. "I wish you could stay, too. Have you ever thought about leaving the DOOP?"

Kif sputtered. "Leave the DOOP? Oh my goodness..."

"You've never thought about it? Zapp doesn't treat you well, and they're being super mean and not giving you a raise."

"I don't think I could. I'm up for a promotion..."

He hadn't listened to her. "I don't understand what's so great about the DOOP."

"On Amphibious, we were trained to fight from an early age. Remember what you saw with our babies?"

She nodded. "I still don't know how all of this fighting is worth it."

"And I don't know how to make you understand that it's necessary."

A long pause passed between them.

"Don't get hurt, Kif." She said, quietly.

"I promise you, I won't."

His hand pressed gently against hers, small comfort against her fear.
